HarbourFront Shopping Centre

A New Name, A New Look, A New Icon of Singapore

If you haven’t realised it, then it’s time you know this – the former World Trade Centre has been renamed HarbourFront Centre.

Not only has the retail mall reopened with a new name, it also has a new look – as part of The HarbourFront Development by Mapletree Investments Pte Ltd.

Now a modern and stylish place to shop, eat and relax at, HarbourFront Centre caters not just to the needs of cruise passengers and visitors to Sentosa and within the region, but also to the office tenants and residents nearby.

According to the company’s press release, The HarbourFront Development aims to transform the Maritime Square area into “a world-class waterfront development offering an exciting work, leisure and entertainment environment and a unique lifestyle experience” for both Singaporeans and visitors to the region.

Phase one of HarbourFront Centre’s redevelopment has been completed with the opening of its retail mall, which features a wide range of popular establishments such as Food Junction, Starbucks, Cold Storage, The Body Shop, etc.

The 2nd phase, which is expected to complete by mid 2004 will see the centre sporting a new façade.

With the scheduled launch of the new North East MRT line in a couple of months, don’t be surprised if HarbourFront Centre becomes your new favourite hangout.

The 5 Areas of HarbourFront Development

1) Singapore Cruise Centre

2) HarbourFront Centre (formerly World Trade Centre) – a building housing retail outlets, offices and the cruise centre

3) The HarbourFront – When completed in 2006 it will be Singapore’s largest retail and entertainment hub, featuring unique attractions such as a Canal Village, alfresco dining and a rail link to Sentosa.

4) Office Park – Prime office buildings comprising HarbourFront Tower One, Keppel Bay Tower and HarbourFront Tower Two (formerly Cable Car Towers), which is being refurbished.

5) Special Interest Village – The oldest coal-fired power station in Singapore, the St James Power House may be used as themed pubs, interactive museums or other retail/entertainment formats.

Shopping at HarbourFront

HarbourFront Centre is only a prelude to the future HarbourFront mall, a mega retail and lifestyle hub touted to be the single largest retail mall in Singapore at 1 million square feet.

Designed by world renowned Jerde Partnership the mall is slated to be completed by 2006.

With so many new and exciting visions happenings, it’s easy to predict that The HarbourFront will be 1 of Singapore’s iconic landmarks, joining the ranks of The Esplanade and the Merlion
