Harajuku Street Style’s Back!

If you’ve got a wardrobe with a colour palette and diversity about as interesting as factory uniforms, the return of HARAJUKU Street Style to TANGS on 1 October 2011 is as timely as it gets.

The 2nd instalment of this street fashion collective promises spiffy threads and accessories for both men and women from the land of sushi and Hello Kitty, as well as a reason to bulldoze all of your existing clothes out of your cupboard to make way for the ones they have to offer.

Japanese brands such as BEAMS, Ray BEAMS, Ciaopanic, CRYSTAL BALL, DAMMY, mystic, Ray Cassin and WEGO are new to our shores, but familiar names will be back for this time as well. This includes BEAUTY&YOUTH UNITED ARROWS, Dip Drops, KBF, rosebullet, Osewaya, and URBAN RESEARCH.

Of course, there is plenty of hoo-ha following the anticipated launch. Prominent regional bloggers Cheesie, Xiaxue, Qiu Qiu and TypicalBen recently went head-to-head in a Blogger Fashion Showcase, posting on their blogs glam shots of themselves in clothes from the different brands.

For the linguists with a knack for churning out captions or headlines, entering the ‘Name the Look’ contest on the HARAJUKU Street Style page would have given you a chance to win a whole set of HARAJUKU Street Style clothing.

But of course, for those not too articulate with the written word and are more externally expressive, the Fashionista Competition called for fashion aficionados to post up their own interpretations of Harajuku Street Style.

And this was all to add up to the final shebang: the Launch Party on 7 October 2011. On top of a special appearance by HARAJUKU Street Style’s face, Rei Shito, the winners of the Fashionista and Name the Look competitions will also be announced.

The brands will be housed at TANGS Orchard’s swanky new PLAYSPACE ON 4 for the entire month of October, and they will also grace the racks of Playlab at TANGS Orchard from 1 October 2011 to 2 January 2012. There’ll be plenty of time to get yourself some Harajuku swag for the new year!
