New year starts with a bang

If you missed celebrations at the Marina Bay, then you missed 8 whole minutes of spectacular fireworks and the biggest countdown event of the year – Celebrate 2011.

1Countdown

Held at The Float @ Marina Bay, Celebrate 2011 burst with star power and explosive performances from Taiwanese singer-songwriter, David Tao, and more as Singaporeans celebrated the final few hours of 2010.

David Tao captured in full unedited glory:

Pre-show: Zero to Hero (火鸟工), My Anata, RE:DT (关于陶喆), Close to You (天天), I’m OK
Live Broadcast: I Love You (爱很简单), Love Can (就是愛你), I Feel Good

The event lasted from 7.30pm all the way to 3am and he commanded the stage for over an hour with his dance medleys, love songs and “RE:DT (关于陶喆)” [Part 3 video] specially dedicated to local fans.

2David

The superstar performed a total of 2 times for the pre-show and live broadcast of Celebrate 2011 at 11pm on Channel 5 – not bad at all for a $38 ticket.

4Sezairi

The night also featured dazzling performances from local celebrities and bands including Jack and Rai, Rancour, Singapore Idol’s Sezairi Sezali, Sylvia Ratonel, Sylvester Sim and the Queen Band, One Moment of Glory (OMG) winner, Jill-Marie Thomas and more.

3Jill

Adam Lambert songs were hot favourites with Jill-Marie Thomas and Sylvester Sim, while the dancing by OMG contenders, Luminiq Crew and the sexy poledancers from Groove Dance School simply brought the house down.

More from Celebrate 2011 here (slideshow):

Featuring: Sylvia Ratonel (Fly), Sezairi Sezaili (Just A Lie), Jack and Rai (Animal, Know Your Enemy, Radioactive, Forget You), OMG (Medley), Jill-Marie Thomas & Rancour (If I Had You), Luminiq Crew, Sylvester Sim and the Queen Band (Adam Lambert medley), One Nation Emcees (4 Minutes, DJ Got Us Fallin’ In Love), C Murda

An hour to midnight as the show went live, the audience were more than hyped up and ready to usher in a brand new year.

Fireworks lit up the night sky and the whole of Marina Bay, in a compass rose design for 8 minutes accompanied by original music composed by Cultural Medallion winner, Iskandar Ismail.

The pyrotechnics display also set aglow about 500, 000 wishes penned by the community onto 20, 000 white spheres which had been released into the waters of Marina Bay as part of the Marina Bay SINGAPORE Countdown 10/11 over at the Esplanade waterfront.

About Yeong Kar Yan

An escapist and a Piscean, Kar Yan can typically be found with her
nose buried in a book, watching TV, or doodling on lecture notes while
daydreaming about flying to school like The Powerpuff Girls. She can
read anytime, anywhere and has fully trained herself to do so even as she is
walking without banging into walls or tripping while on escalators. The downside of this is she often walks past her friends in school/public unknowingly, much to
their annoyance. Follow her @kayarocks on Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr or Flickr!

If you missed the Marina Bay fireworks then you really didn’t miss much as they were exactly the same as the previous events during the year. If you want to see how it should’ve been done then look here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xy_9bx6U8_0 for how London did the fireworks…so much flair, class and creativity. Let’s hope Singapore can top them for future displays!
